June is a beautiful month in Australia. It means the end of the term in uni for many students who can’t wait to have a well-deserved break and share good moments with their classmates. June also means the end of autumn, which is a beautiful time of the year with the trees showing off their beautiful colours. Colours that will leave you speechless once the night arrive and you get to experience the Vivid Festival in Sydney.
The Vivid Festival started back in 2009 and its growth has been more than amazing. For us, travellers, students, or workers in this amazing country, it means the perfect opportunity to experience Sydney and its magic atmosphere.
During the day, numerous cultural events happen in the city. You can see sculptures; corners in the city turned into scenarios, activities for kids and many more attractions that make this festival so special.
But it is when the sun goes down when the most spectacular part of the Vivid Festival starts. Grab your classmates, a good bunch of new friends that you now have and go for a walk around the harbour to enjoy the show. Places like The Rocks, North Quay, the Harbour Bridge and of course the most iconic building in Australia, the Sydney Opera House, will transform every 20 minutes to represent a lights and music show that will leave you speechless. During last year, the main topic was the aboriginal culture. When you come to experience Australia, you need to learn and understand the aboriginal culture and what the relationship between the current population and the natives of this land is nowadays.
Closing the gap between both cultures is a must, and this Vivid Festival repertoire was a magnificent display. I couldn’t help but staring at the Harbour Bridge with the lights reflecting in the sea, and I definitely fell in love with the Opera House. Such a beautiful building!
If you are planning to come to Australia in 2018, make sure you write these days down in the calendar. Every year the Vivid Festival attracts more and more people, so you better be quick booking accommodation for these few days. If you organise it with time, you can get good deals in the backpackers close to the Harbour as I did with my classmates. Once you are here, just enjoy it and create unique memories of your Aussie experience!
