Yes, when we arrive in a new country there is something very very important. To get involved with the local community. Why? There are many reasons, but one you should keep your eye on is that locals have contacts. You are new in the city, you don’t know anyone and your English is not the best. Odds are finding a job is not the easiest task, so the more help you can get, the better.
I thank football every time I say that it took me 7 days to find a job in Australia. That was the first place that I went to after landing in Australia. Sports close the gap between people from different cultures and countries. In my case, football gave me the chance to meet people from many professional fields and with so many contacts this way by the end of my second training sessions I already had 6 contacts to call regarding a job. Not bad for someone who could barely speak English hey?

In my case, it was Gumtree. Even when I already had a job thanks to football when I discovered this website, I spent hours looking for what it had to offer. From used clothes to cheap furniture, or from volunteering options to a wide range of job offers. I found this site to be very useful with casual jobs, as people tend to advertise those little positions available and they don’t worry too much about your experience or background.
I can’t recommend you enough to spend an hour every day diving in gumtree. You never know what wonders you might find on it!

ATTITUDE
Last but not least. Attitude. People think that what I did was remarkable, and I disagree. Wherever you go in life, positive attitude will make all the difference. Showing respect, being eager to learn and listening to those who know more than you do is the path to success!
