Cork Pride Festival is back in Cork City!!! 29Jul – 6th Aug 2012
The seventh annual Cork Pride Festival will take place again this year, at a changed date of the August Bank Holiday, after a record-breaking 3,000 strong event last year.
The festival, which aims at highlighting LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) culture, is moving in order to gain more support and avoid clashes with other festivals that usually take place during the traditional June Bank Holiday dates such as the Cork City Marathon.
“This year we are working around the theme of The Future,” said JP McCarthy, PRO.
The festival will include participants from all over Europe and Ireland and will feature several activities through Cork Community Art Link.
“This year they are working on a giant dragon for the Parade which is going to be spectacular,” said JP.
“People with artistic flare can get involved helping to create floats, costumes and other props for the parade. The Parade takes place on Sunday 5 August and will finish off a fantastic week.”
The official launch of the festival will take place in City Hall as the City Council become more involved with the festivities of Cork Pride. A number of commercial venues around the city will also be involved in events, including Chambers Bar and Loafers on Douglas Street with a steps tribute band and several popular DJ’s and acts involved.
A film programme will also run in the Triskel cinema with guest speakers, workshops, parent and family groups workshops as well as the Pride Family Sports Day on the Saturday in Mardyke Place.
