Tuesday the 17th March is Patrick’s Day, and it’s not because you’re not in Ireland that you can’t enjoy the Irish folklore. Indeed Patrick’s Day is a very popular day all over the world, especially in the US and in the UK. This year, an event will take place in Trafalgar Square and will be free admission. This festival will represent the 32 counties of Ireland and is the best way to discover Irish culture, enjoy Irish music, movies, dances and finally to taste some Irish food. It will also be your only opportunity to see the London Eye in the famous Irish colour of green.
So don’t forget to wear your green clothes and join all the London Irish people that are going to celebrate the day.
Here are some examples of the events that will take place:
Patrick’s Day Parade on the 17th March: The big Patrick’s Day Parade will begin at Piccadilly and go across London and pass into iconic areas like Trafalgar Square, Whitehall and The Ritz. The parade will have performances by Irish dancing schools, spectacular pageantry and wonderful floats. The theme of this year is “World of dance”.
The Festival on the 17th March: The festival will be held from 12pm to 6pm and it’s the best way for you to discover Irish traditions such as black and white pudding. You’ll also have the opportunity to taste some Irish beers as well like Guinness or Kilkenny.
Irish pubs: The best way to celebrate Patrick’s Day is still to go in a pub and to enjoy a live show of Irish music and to drink some beers. Here’s a small list of the Irish pubs, you should try in London:
- The George Inn, Borough High Street
- Auld Shillelagh, Stamford Hill
- Porterhouse, Covent Garden
- Tipperary, Fleet Street
- Harp, Leicester Square
Finally, if you have more time to enjoy the experience, you can still go to Dublin or Cork and enjoy Patrick’s Day in the real way, and who knows maybe you’ll met Conor our traveling leprechaun on your way…
