On Friday 18th October, Managing Director of EazyCity, Julia Lynes will join other Cork business leaders to sleep out in aid of Focus Ireland homeless services. The participants will sleep outside within the grounds of Cork City Gaol from 7pm to 7am the following morning. “On a personal level I always value the feeling of security and comfort when I close my front door behind me each evening at home. I feel strongly that everyone should have a place to call home and if by participating in this event I can help to achieve the goals of Focus Ireland then I am more than happy to do so”, Julia stated.
This initiative was started last year in Dublin and will take place also in Cork this year. The participants have been tasked with raising €5,000 each in donations. “It’s an innovative initiative and when I read about it I knew that I wanted to get involved. What struck me most about the statistics is that 1 in 7 people now accessing homeless services is a child”, said Julia.
Homelessness is quite a complex and difficult issue and the Shine A Light Night sleep out is a kind of symbolic way of drawing attention to the issue and of course raising vital funds. All the money raised goes directly to services to help prevent people from becoming homeless and helping people who are homeless to move on and get a place that they can call home.
Donations can be made online at www.shinealight.ie/participants .
