3 to 7 October, after 32 years of great music, the Cork Folk Festival is back presenting a packed international line-up for 2012!
Headlining this edition of the Festival will be one of folk music’s finest troubadours: Paul Brady, who last played the Cork Festival in the far 1985. He will play on Sunday evening at the Triskel Christchurch (8:00pm; adm €30).
The opening event in Shandon, on Wednesday 3rd October, features a song concert with Con Ó Drisceoil, Nell Ní Chróinín, and Caoimhín Ó Fearghail, Seán Ó Sé & Máire Ní Chéilleachair (at An Spailpín Fánach; 9:00 pm; adm €10).
On Thursday the Festival moves downtown to the Pavilion where Kan & Deluce’s Patent will play (9:00 pm; adm €20).
Friday’s highlight is the International Fiddle Night at the Triskel Christchurch (8:00 pm; adm €15).
Saturday begins on the morning with workshops and the Trad Song Competition, won last year by Dannie Maidhíc Ó Suilleabháin.
Then, at 5pm, the Triskel Tune Makers Concert comes to Cork with a unique line up of Máirtín Ó ‘Connor, Liz Carroll, Dave Flynn & Peadar O Riada. Saturday continues with the amazing voice of Declan O ‘Rourke at the Cork School of Music (8:00 pm; adm €25). Then at 9pm in the Pavilion the legendary UK Duo, guitarist and singer Martin Carthy and fiddler Dave Swarbrick play a concert.
It’s up early on Sunday morning for ‘the real festival’ with the box, fiddle & singers concerts and then the mighty Céilí Mór on Grand Parade starting at 2pm: an open air market with over 30 fabulous tasty food stalls, and 10,000 dancers!
