The rivalry between Corkonians and Dubliners has always existed.Dublin is naturally the official capital of Ireland, but Cork is called the “Real Capital” by its inhabitants. We have created a friendly confrontation between these two cities:
who is going to win?
- FOOD
Entering the English Market in Cork anyone can read the large billboard “CORK: FOOD CAPITAL OF IRELAND”. In Dublin you can certainly find a wide variety of restaurants offering specialties from all over the world. But only in the Rebel City can you find a truly-Irish culinary tradition. Black pudding, the famous “tripe and drisheen”, fresh fish daily from the port and a great breakfast!

- BEER
Dublin, we know, is the birthplace of Guinness and its brewery, the largest in the world. But in Cork you can find two good stout beers such as Beamish and Murphy’s, as well as several microbreweries. And of course Guinness is sold in the South too!

- PUBS
Surely there are many pubs in Cork! Along the banks of the river Lee any kind of local can be found. But Dublin, with its immense size, can offer more choice in addition to less rigorous closing times. And Temple Bar is famous worldwide for its craic!

- WEATHER
The average annual temperature is 10.3°C in Cork, in Dublin instead it’s 11.0°C. Regarding the well-known Irish rain, Cork has an average of 146 rainy days per year, Dublin “only” 128! The sun – sometimes – shines on the capital: so, we have a tie!

- PLACES OF INTEREST
Both cities can ensure excellent proposals to their visitors. In Cork the beautiful district of Shandon, UCC, the St. Finbarre’s Cathedral. The Trinity College, the GPO, so many gardens, Molly Malone, Grafton Street in Dublin: thanks to its vastness, Dublin wins the challenge!

- SPORTS
Obviously we are talking about Gaelic sports! In Gaelic football representative of county Dublin has won 23 championships. Just 7 for the “Red Army” from county Cork. In hurling, however, the Corkonians dominate with their 30 championships won, against the Dubliners’ 6. Final score? 37-29 for the Rebel City!
CORK vs. DUBLIN 3-3!
The draw was the only fair result between these two beautiful cities. You should visit both of them before you can pick your favorite: it’s not an easy choice!
