Irish people have been travelling to the US for years, and it has now become somewhat of a tradition, so what’s the big attraction? There is nowhere else like the US. When you go there, you experience a culture that is completely different to here in Ireland and the rest of Europe. It needs to be seen to be believed and it’s certainly one to tick off the bucket list. There’s no better time to travel when you are young and free so step outside your comfort zone and give yourself an experience like no other.
Every year, around 10,000 Irish travel to America on a temporary visa called the J1. The J1 visa is an Exchange Visitor, non-immigrant visa for people who want to participate in work-and study-based exchange visitor programs.
The summer work and travel program is a very popular option but many people don’t know that there are a variety of J1 program options to suit all backgrounds and ages, and you can go for anywhere from 1 month to 18 months depending on the program you choose. If you love working with children, a position as a camp counsellor or an au pair may be for you, the J1 summer program is for those who just want a summer job and if you are looking to further your career while experiencing American life and culture, taking part in a professional internship on the Career Training USA program is a fantastic way to combine both.
Let’s take a closer look at the lesser known ‘Career Training USA’ J1 Program
For such a fantastic opportunity, it’s quite surprising that many people have never even heard of it. A misconception about the J1 visa is that it’s only for students or graduates… wrong!
Amazing news! The Career Training USA program is open to students, graduates and professionals, so you don’t even need a degree, just related work experience.
How do I qualify?
Students – Must be currently enrolled in a full-time degree or professional certificate program in a college, university, or other post-secondary academic institution and have finished at least one year of the degree program
