It was winter, in a tiny bar in the huge city of London. It seemed that our destiny, even if it sounds cliché, was right there. A cross of looks, a pair of smiles and … the flame of love began to burn. She was Spanish, and me as well. How have we coincided at this time at this place? The answer, at that moment, only was known by the love Cupid.
I remember that night I went to bed with butterflies in my stomach. I came home with a very good friend and I told him that girl was different, I had a good feeling. The day after, we talked again and decided to meet up for a drink at Shepherd’s Bush, that beer was extended more than expected as the date was flowing and we were very comfortable so after a few days, we decided to meet again, and then more and more frequently.
It could be the beginning of something beautiful, and although some obstacles in the form of distance or festivities in the middle were making in difficult, we did everything possible so that it did not affect our relationship. Among unexpected surprises, good morning messages and songs that seemed to have been written for us, everything was perfect.
I perfectly remember her first birthday together, she thought I was in Spain on vacation, and although it is true that I was, I booked an earlier flight back to London just to spend the day with her. “Hi sweetie, can you look out the window?” “Are you kidding me again?” She said. “In fact, it was not a joke this time. I really wanted to show her that despite the distance and different lifestyles we lead we can make it work.
We both like traveling so then we visited several cities like Liverpool, Brighton, Edinburgh and also discover a bit more about our particular city of love, our lovely London. Honestly, the cities were the least, what mattered there was the company … and what a company!
Staying with her made me lose my fears, and specially my fear of heights. It all started in an amusement park. She has been planning for us to go to an amusement park for quite a while. Honestly it wasn’t my ideal idea for a date, I was not going to enjoy it because of my fear of heights. One day she said she had bought the tickets so obviously I had to accept it. We brought our sandwiches, our drinks as well as my fear of heights = D, everything was packed. But do you know what? … I loved it! I mean it, I did not want to go home! she must’ve cast a spell on me.
Little by little, the relationship became crazier, funnier, confidence was increasing and the union was growing stronger. She met my family, with whom she got on perfectly, I have met hers. Presentations, nerves, new people, different points of view, none of the above have ever been an issue for us but stepping stones to a better, stronger relationship. Who despite moments of anger and some different opinions, will I’m sure have a happy ending.
