You know that not many people are lucky enough to travel to Australia to learn English. Being a student has lots of advantages, but most of us face with one problem: Our budget. As you already know, I love travelling, so it took me a while, but I finally have the perfect tips for travelling around Australia ( and other places ) on a student budget.
Driving…
If you are a road trip lover, the east coast of Australia is a dream journey for you. When travelling from Melbourne to Brisbane, for example, you can visit some of the best beaches in Australia with historic towns, wild rainforest and make a stopover in genuine wineries for a couple of days. How to make it cheap? Well, the best option in my opinion is to share a car with other fellow travellers. I love meeting new people and this is an awesome way to do it. Visit websites like gumtree.com.au, or search for groups on Facebook to find more people like you who want to discover Australia. All the costs for the car rental and the fuel you can split with the other, it’s a win win!
Greyhound…
No that you have to ride a greyhound to travel, that would be too much. Greyhound is one of the biggest bus companies in Australia, and they sometimes have very good deals and promotions that will allow you to visit different cities in Australia (hop on-hop off) without having to drive or worrying about the fuel. My favourite route goes from Darwin to Adelaide, stopping in Kakadu National Park, Alice Spring or Uluru on the way down. An amazing trip!
You love flying…
Australia has huge distances between cities. Thousands of kilometres sometimes. If you think about the amount of countries you would cover in Europe by flying 1500km, the list would be pretty awesome. You can do that in Australia, just one country, and fly from one city to another without boundaries.
Having said that distances are a bit of an issue in Australia, thankfully flight tickets ( if booked in advance) can be actually very cheap. If you jump to the Tiger Air or Jetstar websites (both low cost), you can find amazing deals. Tiger does something incredible every Tuesday and also when they reach a round figure of clients. Not long ago they reach their 20 million passenger and to celebrate it the launched seats for 20$ to fly from and to different cities. Amazing isn’t it? Two years ago I flew to Adelaide from Brisbane for AU$17. The price of a breakfast.
I invite you to make the most of your experience abroad. These are my 3 favourite ways to do it. If you have any ideas about how to make travelling around Australia on a student budget possible. Let us know
