Tick tock tick tock…! It is time to think about your plans for St Patrick’s Day!
For many people who live abroad, this is the first time that they will celebrate the real St. Patrick’s Day. Of course, you cannot avoid the famous parades. If you don’t know where you can go on the 17th to see it we can help you for that:
– In Dublin the parade will start at Parnell Square at twelve o’clock,
– Don’t be late! In Galway it will begin at 11.30 a.m. on Lower Dominick Street,
– In New York, there is a big community of people who originally come from Ireland so the parade will be a huge event like every year. Just be at 10.00 a.m. along 5th avenue near to 44th street to watch it from the beginning!
– In Cork the place to be is the South Mall or Grand Parade at 1 p.m.,
– This year, London celebrates Patrick’s Day on the 13th of March with a parade starting at Piccadilly at midday.
After the parade, it is of course out of the question to finish the day! You should have a beer (naturally an Irish one). On the 17th even in London and New York, many pubs will take out there best green decorations!
After it, you should continue to celebrate with your friends! We will give you some tips to decorate your flat and prepare some appetizers to enjoy the Irish feast day atmosphere!
We definitely do not want to spend too much time to decorate and too much money. So we give you some ideas to do it simple but great.
The D-Day is coming and you can already find many objects in some shops. Just to name only two of the cheapest, you can find a big choice at Euro giant, Dealz and also Penney’s shops offer a range of green accessories for this event. Check the nearest shop at this link.
For sure, you can find decorations in the shape of shamrocks that you can customise to make a wreath on the table and put in the middle candles of Irish flag’s colours.
With sheets of paper of colours you can also make a rainbow on the wall and on the bottom put a pot with gold coins (in chocolate of course!). It’s not so easy to find just green balloon so you can hang them in the order of rainbow colours! Do not forget to buy green paper napkins for each plate.
This is all well and good but, what can we eat?!
You can put on the table some green snacks that everyone likes: pistachios, olives, guacamole with triangular tortillas or pieces of chicken and little pies in shape of shamrock. To do them you need to fold the pastry before filling it with what you like in it and if you like add either green pesto, spinach or simply put, after cooked it the oven, a leaf of basil.
As a main dish, you can cook some green peppers filled with beef meat. You can fill them before going to see the parade and when you arrive at home with friends, you just put it in the oven!
For the dessert, you can eat fruits but not just any fruit! Prepare a big plate with pieces of fruit of colours of rainbow: berries, mandarin, pineapple, kiwi, grape, blueberries. For the greediest, dunk the fruits in a chocolate fondue! Delicious!
In the middle of the plate put some chocolate coins as leprechauns put gold coins at the end of the rainbow!
What about the dress up?
The most important on St. Patrick ’s Day is absolutely to wear something green!
Exactly like the decorations, you can find a plenty of objects at Euro Giant, Penney’s or Dealz: leprechaun’s hat, socks stripes with the colour of the Irish flag or with green and white, green shirt. You can buy an orange ball of wool and cut it to create your own reddish wig. If you don’t know how to fix it nicely, just hide the knot under a hat. Girls, if you are not sensitive to cold you can make your own green tutu!
