On Tuesday March 17th St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated, patron of Ireland. This day is a national holiday in Ireland and for custom, though unofficial, in Northern Ireland.
However, St. Patrick’s has managed to become one of the most celebrated holidays worldwide. Wear green, enjoy Irish cuisine -the beer is included- and participate in parades have become in the main symbols of this day. But there is more behind this celebration.
Since the mid-90s, the Irish government uses St. Patrick’s Day to promote Ireland as a creative, professional and sophisticated country. Today, this festival is celebrated in cities like London, Buenos Aires, Manchester, Paris and Toronto, among many others. But if there is one place where this festival is celebrated massively, with the permission of Ireland, is in New York.
