I think travelling is something every young person should set out to do. While some people believe it isn’t really necessary and is only done for recreational purposes, I beg to differ, as travelling can help you in a number of ways to grow and enhance your life. After all, travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer!
DISCOVER YOURSELF
The good thing about travelling is it helps you discover yourself and leads you on to that path of self-discovery about your true self and also, what your strengths and weaknesses may be. You begin to learn things you never thought you would have before. When you experience a whole new place for the first time, you’re like a kid again without a clue about anything and curious about everything! Moments like these take us out of our element and remind us of why we are here.
APPRECIATION
When we travel, we have the time to appreciate even the most seemingly inconsequential things in life, which we all take for granted, like the sun shining down on us – you start to see it in a new light and in a new way. Once you realise the true power of travelling, you know that looking up at the colosseum in Rome or seeing the beaches in Florida out-values any merchandise you could ever possibly purchase.
OPENS YOUR MIND
We learn that there’s more to the world than our little bubble; where you are, what you do, what you know and what exists around you. Travelling enables us to learn new cultures, new ways of life and new simplicities. You will experience new places and various cultures and learn we really aren’t that different at all. While travelling, your experiences can change your perception of the world. When you get exposure to such rich human diversity, you become modest to learn how little space we occupy in the world! This modesty helps you in becoming more open-minded and to become more welcoming to newer perspectives.
MEET NEW PEOPLE
Going to a foreign place will teach you how to interact with others. You will learn to break down the barriers and communicate; you will learn to not be so introverted and will be more outgoing. When you travel your able to get out of your comfort zone more easily and meet new people and so you are bound to make friends along the way! (Forget what your mother said, you’re going to have to talk to strangers!). Your new friendships open up your eyes to the world outside of your own, allowing you to gain a new perspective on life and make the world seem a little bit smaller and just that little bit less scary.
DEVELOP NEW SKILLS
Even though you are travelling and have that holiday vibe with you, you will also learn new skills without even trying. While travelling you are made to make more decisions independently than ever before which in turn improves your decision-making skills! The new cultures, languages, norms and other practices that you come across helps you in communicating better and working on your social skills in the progress. Budgeting, planning, researching, packing, etc are some of the aspects associated with organising travelling and all of this helps you tackle other life situations in a pretty much similar fashion. As an added bonus, you will appear more employable for your future career prospects as you can show you can do it, not just on paper, but in reality too… so it’s a win-win situation!
In the end, we’ve only got this life to be the best versions of ourselves. I have achieved so much and now feel more confident in my ability to achieve my dreams. By travelling, you will become more confident meeting new people and when you return home you will bring this with you through daily life.
The world is a book and those who don’t travel, read only one page!
Travel enriches you and changes you for the better while bringing out the best possible version you can become. Many people say that they can’t travel as much as they want to because of money restraints but the truth is you must just make going abroad your No.1 priority. So don’t sit around dreaming of places to go, just GO FOR IT!
