Galway is a very touristic city and a busy harbour area, particularly crowded during the summer. Now is a great moment to plan to go there and to drift with different summer plans. We will let you choose the event(s) that you would like to go to. Some festivals take place during the same period so you can also enjoy several of them especially in July!
Connemara Green Festival
We start quietly! This event that we decided to speak to you about is the first in the calendar order. It will take place from the 17th to the 19th of June. It is not a festival of the type that you think first. First of all it will take place in County Galway but not right in Galway city. Galway is the “entrance” to the Connemara National Park and as you can guess, thanks to the name, the theme is the ecology and protection of the nature and of course the Connemara National Park! To be precise the 2016 edition is about “‘Ecology, Food and Landscape”. Click here to see all the activities that you can plan. If you don’t know the area there are some great walks and hikes around. On the 18th you can enjoy kayaking!
Galway sessions 2016
Let’s continue with a typical Irish festival, especially for the 2016 year with the celebration of the centenary of the 1916 Rising. If you want a bit of escape or rather to be immersed in your host country and city this festival from the 12th to the 19th June is what you are seeking. There are several types of activities and to be honest we prefer the music to enjoy the sun (for sure!) on these days! Here is the page on which you can find the musical performances during the Galway sessions 2016. For the musical event prices vary from 10 to 20€ but most of the events are free. Personally, we don’t know any of the artists but it can be the occasion to hear something else other than the famous and too much heard “Molly Malone” song.
Galway Fringe festival
Between the 9th and 25th of July various local artists but some international too are going to perform at the Galway Fringe festival. They had until mid-April to register to be part of the line-up. Nevertheless we can’t see it on the website yet. Keep an eye on it! As this multidisciplinary festival welcomes many unknown artists you could find a gem and original as much as unique performers.
Galway International Arts Festival
For its 38th edition this two weeks long festival will take place from the 11th to the 24th of July. It’s the most famous festival of the “City of the Tribes”. It’s THE festival which makes Galway as vibrant as it has since 38 years with about a hundred artists. To keep us waiting, here are the first names. You can read the festivals description in French, German and Spanish.
